Rich Square is a small farming town in northeastern North Carolina, about 15 miles from the Virginia line. US Highway 158 runs right through the center of town, connecting it west to Henderson and east toward the Outer Banks. Most visitors arrive via US 158, while locals use State Route 305 for north-south travel to surrounding rural areas. The town sits in flat tobacco and cotton country typical of the coastal plain. Rich Square's old courthouse building dates back to 1858, when this was actually the Northampton County seat.
