Retreat is a small farming community in East Texas, about 50 miles southeast of Dallas in Navarro County. Reach it via Highway 31 east from Corsicana or west from Tyler. The town of 700 sits among cotton fields and cattle ranches in the rolling countryside. Retreat hosts an annual Watermelon Festival each summer, complete with seed-spitting contests celebrating the area's agricultural roots.
