Reliance is a small farming town in south-central South Dakota, about 40 miles northwest of Chamberlain along US Highway 83. Most visitors come up from I-90 via the Vivian exit or from Pierre on State Highway 1804. The town sits in the Missouri River valley where rolling prairie meets wider plains, serving area ranches and providing river access. Reliance still operates one of America's few remaining manually operated railroad drawbridges over the Missouri River.
