Red Cross is a small Stanly County community of about 900 people, located 35 miles northeast of Charlotte via US 74 to NC Highway 24. The town sits in North Carolina's Piedmont region among rolling hills and mixed forests. Most visitors arrive on NC 24, which runs east-west through town, while NC 138 provides north-south access. The community got its name from an old country store that displayed a prominent red cross sign as a landmark.
