Raton sits along Interstate 25 in northeastern New Mexico, right at the Colorado border where the high plains meet mountain foothills. The city serves as a natural waypoint for travelers between Albuquerque and Denver, with US 64 connecting east-west through town. At 6,666 feet elevation, it experiences true four seasons in high desert country. You can still see original Santa Fe Trail wagon ruts carved into the mountainside at nearby Raton Pass.
