Rathbun is a tiny farming community of 30 people in south-central Iowa near the Missouri border. Highway 2 runs east-west through the area, connecting to Centerville 15 miles east and eventually Interstate 35. Most visitors arrive from Des Moines, about 90 miles northeast via state highways and I-35. The town sits near Rathbun Lake, an 11,000-acre reservoir that's one of Iowa's largest bodies of water.
