Raleigh, the Smith County seat, sits where Highway 35 crosses rural south-central Mississippi. Drive Highway 35 south from Bay Springs or north from Magee, or take I-20 east from Jackson to the Forest exit, then head south. The 1912 brick courthouse dominates the town square and remains the county's working government center.
