Racine hugs Lake Michigan's shore about 30 miles south of Milwaukee, connected by I-94 and scenic Highway 31 along the coastline. The Root River flows through downtown to the lake, creating the natural harbor that built this industrial city. Most visitors arrive via I-94 from Chicago or Milwaukee, while locals use Highway 20 for east-west travel and Highway 11 to reach inland communities. Racine invented the garbage disposal in 1927 and still makes InSinkErator units here.
