Quitman is the Wood County seat in East Texas, about 100 miles east of Dallas. US Highway 69 runs through town, connecting to Tyler (25 miles south) and continuing toward Dallas via Interstate 20. Most long-distance visitors take I-20 east to US 69 north from Dallas, while State Highway 37 provides east-west access to Lake Fork and Marshall. The town hosts Texas's Old Settlers Reunion every July, running continuously since 1898.
