Quanah is a small Panhandle town of 2,100 people that serves as Hardeman County's seat. It sits right on US 287 near the Oklahoma border, making it a natural stop between Amarillo and Dallas-Fort Worth. Most visitors arrive via the highway from Childress (30 miles) or Vernon (45 miles), while locals often drive to Childress for shopping and services. The town is named after Quanah Parker, the famous Comanche chief whose mother was the captured settler Cynthia Ann Parker.
