Purcell is a small farming community in southwestern Missouri, about 15 miles northeast of Joplin along Highway 96. Most visitors arrive via I-44 and Highway 96 from Carthage, or Highway 171 from Joplin. The area serves as a waypoint between Kansas City, Tulsa, and Springfield for long-distance travelers, while locals commute to jobs in nearby Joplin and Carthage. The community centers around its rural postal route, named after early settler families.
