Progreso Lakes is a small border community in South Texas's Rio Grande Valley, home to just 240 people. It's easily reached via US Highway 83, sitting about 15 miles west of McAllen and 25 miles northwest of Brownsville. The subtropical climate brings mild winters and hot summers. The town gets its name from the nearby Progreso International Bridge that crosses into Mexico.
