Primghar is a small farming town in northwest Iowa's O'Brien County, surrounded by corn and soybean fields. Highway 60 runs north-south through town, connecting to Sheldon 15 miles south and continuing toward Minnesota. State Highway 18 provides east-west access to Spencer and other regional centers. The town's unique name comes from the first letters of eight early settlers' surnames, displayed proudly on the local water tower.
