Powhatan is a rural community of 35 people in Natchitoches Parish, about 15 miles west of Natchitoches via Highway 120. This tiny settlement sits in Louisiana's pine forest country, accessible from Shreveport via I-49 south to Natchitoches, then local roads west. The community was named after the famous Virginia Indian confederacy, reflecting early American migration patterns.
