Potosi is Washington County's seat, located about 70 miles southwest of St. Louis via Highway 21 south. This former lead mining town of 2,500 sits in Missouri's Ozark foothills, accessible from the west on Highway 8. The 1870 courthouse with its distinctive mansard roof still dominates the town square as the area's tallest building.
