Potlatch is a small timber town of about 900 people in Idaho's Palouse region, 30 miles southeast of Moscow on Highway 6. Most visitors drive from Moscow or Lewiston via Highway 95 to Highway 6, passing through rolling wheat fields and forested hills. The town sits in a valley with a continental climate of snowy winters and dry summers. The historic Potlatch Corporation mill site, which operated for over 80 years until 1981, gave the town its name after the Native American ceremonial feast.
