Portland anchors Maine's coast where I-95 meets the Atlantic, about two hours north of Boston. The compact downtown sits on a peninsula between the Fore River and Casco Bay, surrounded by islands that create excellent harbor protection. Most visitors arrive via I-95 or fly into Portland International Jetport, just 3 miles west of downtown. The Old Port's eight blocks pack in more restaurants per capita than San Francisco.
