Porterdale is a historic mill town of about 1,500 people located 45 miles east of Atlanta along the Yellow River. Take I-20 East to Exit 90, then Highway 142 south for three miles. The drive from Atlanta takes about an hour, while locals use Highway 142 and Route 81 for regional connections. The original 1880s cotton mill has been converted into loft apartments, with its towering brick smokestacks still dominating the riverside skyline.
