Porter is a tiny farming town of 191 people in southwestern Minnesota's Yellow Medicine County. Located along US Highway 212, it's 18 miles west of Granite Falls and 35 miles northwest of Marshall. The route connects to Interstate 90 for longer trips or continues east toward the Twin Cities. The town sits in rolling prairie farmland along the Minnesota River valley, surrounded by corn and soybean fields. Porter's landmark grain elevator still towers over the railroad tracks, a classic prairie sentinel visible for miles.
