Portal is a small farming community in southeast Georgia, about 15 miles southwest of Statesboro via US Highway 80. With just over 600 residents, it sits in rolling agricultural land where locals mainly commute to Statesboro for work or Georgia Southern University. Long-distance travelers reach Portal via Interstate 16 to US 80, while State Route 46 connects north-south traffic. The town got its name from being a railroad crossing point where two rail lines once intersected.
