Poplar Bluff serves as Butler County's seat in southeastern Missouri, positioned where Ozark foothills meet Mississippi River lowlands. US 60 runs east-west through town, connecting to I-57 about 45 miles east near Sikeston, making St. Louis accessible via I-55 south. US 67 provides the main north-south route through downtown. The city houses the world's largest black walnut processing plant, operated by Hammons Products Company since 1946.
