Ponca is a small Nebraska town of about 700 people in Dixon County, sitting on rolling hills 15 miles from the Missouri River. Highway 12 runs east-west through town, connecting to Hartington and South Sioux City, while Highway 9 provides north-south access. Most long-distance travelers use Highway 12 to reach Interstate 29 near South Sioux City. The nearby state park features 300-foot bluffs overlooking the Missouri River valley.
