Pomeroy is the county seat of Garfield County, located in southeastern Washington's wheat country about 35 miles from Pullman via State Route 12. The town sits at 1,900 feet elevation among the rolling Palouse hills, serving farming communities in the surrounding area. Visitors typically arrive on SR 12 from either Pullman to the west or Walla Walla to the east, with Lewiston, Idaho, just 30 miles southeast. The town's 1881 courthouse remains one of Washington's oldest county courthouses still in active use.
