Polkville is a small Cleveland County community in western North Carolina's foothills, about 45 miles northwest of Charlotte via US Highway 74. The town sits along the main east-west corridor through the county, with State Route 108 providing north-south access to surrounding rural areas. Most visitors arrive from Charlotte or Asheville using US 74, while locals commute daily to nearby Shelby or Charlotte for work. The community is named after President James K. Polk, who spent part of his childhood in the Cleveland County area.
