Interstate 40 provides the main access route, while US 271 connects north-south and Highway 9 runs through downtown. Most traffic involves short commutes to Fort Smith about 10 miles away, though I-40 brings long-distance travelers through the area. The city preserves the original 1889 Cherokee Nation courthouse as a museum.
