Pleasanton lies 40 miles south of San Antonio along US Highway 281, serving as a gateway between the Hill Country and coastal plains. The main route from San Antonio takes about 45 minutes via 281 south, while visitors from Houston connect through I-10 west to I-35 south to 281. State Highway 97 provides east-west access through town. This small ranching community calls itself the "Birthplace of the Cowboy" and hosts an annual Cowboy Homecoming celebration each August with rodeo events and a Main Street parade.
