Pleasant Plains is a small farming community 20 miles northwest of Springfield, reached via I-72 Exit 91 or IL-97 north from the state capital. Chicago drivers take I-55 south to I-72 west for the three-hour trip, while St. Louis visitors use I-55 north to I-72 west. The town's distinctive water tower, painted with "Pleasant Plains" in large letters, can be spotted from miles away across the flat prairie landscape.
