Platte is a small farming town of about 1,200 people in south-central South Dakota, serving as the Charles Mix County seat. Located along the Missouri River, it sits on US Highway 18, which connects east to Mitchell (45 miles) and west to Winner. Most visitors arrive via Interstate 90 to Mitchell, then southwest on Highway 18. The town's standout feature is its 1930s WPA courthouse built from local fieldstone with striking Art Deco details.
