Plainview is a farming community of 3,500 in southeastern Minnesota, about 30 miles from Rochester via Highway 42. The town sits in Wabasha County's rolling agricultural landscape, where Highway 247 intersects with Highway 42 at the small downtown core. Most visitors connect through Rochester or follow Highway 42 east to the Mississippi River valley near Red Wing. The city earned its name from the wide, unobstructed prairie views that greeted the original 1850s settlers.
