Plains is a small farming town of about 1,200 people in West Texas's cotton country, about 45 miles southwest of Lubbock via US 380. The highway runs right through town and continues west to New Mexico, while State Highway 214 connects north-south to Denver City. It's classic high plains agriculture territory with cotton fields, oil wells, and wide open spaces under big skies.
