Placerville, a former Gold Rush town in California's Sierra foothills, sits 44 miles east of Sacramento along Highway 50. The city connects to Sacramento via Highway 50 and links north-south Gold Country destinations through Highway 49. Located at nearly 1,900 feet elevation, it experiences hot summers and mild winters. The historic Main Street still displays the Hangman's Tree, a 150-year-old oak that earned the town its "Hangtown" nickname during the 1849 Gold Rush.
