Pitkin is a tiny mountain town of 131 people at 9,242 feet elevation in Colorado's Gunnison County. Reach it via Highway 135 north from Gunnison for 28 miles, then County Road 76 east for 12 more miles through aspen country. Winter snow often makes the final stretch impassable. The post office still operates from an 1880s log cabin.
