The rural community sits in Alabama's Black Belt region among rolling agricultural countryside. Long-distance visitors typically route through Montgomery from Birmingham or Mobile, while local traffic uses State Route 10 for east-west connections. The town got its unusual name from a 19th-century plantation that grew pineapples in hothouses.
