Pickens is a small mountain town 30 miles west of Greenville, serving as the county seat in South Carolina's Blue Ridge foothills. US-178 runs straight through downtown, making it an easy 45-minute drive from Greenville or a quick trip to Clemson University. The route continues west toward North Carolina's mountains, while State Routes 8 and 183 connect to local destinations and scenic areas like Table Rock State Park. The 1903 courthouse with its red brick clock tower dominates the town square.
