Pickens is a small county seat in central Mississippi with under 1,000 residents, located about 45 miles north of Jackson via I-55 and Highway 17. Most visitors come from Jackson or other parts of central Mississippi, with the drive taking about an hour through rolling farmland. The town serves as Holmes County's government center, anchored by its historic courthouse from the late 1800s.
