Philippi, the Barbour County seat, sits along US Route 250 in West Virginia's mountainous interior. The main route from major cities runs via Interstate 79 to Route 250, about 20 miles west. Local traffic uses Route 250 for commutes to Grafton and Buckhannon within 30 miles. The town features the historic Philippi Covered Bridge, one of only two covered bridges remaining on a federal highway.
