Peterson is a tiny farming town of 244 people in southeastern Minnesota's scenic Root River valley. Highway 16 runs right through town, connecting east to Rushford and west to Spring Valley, while Highway 43 provides access north to Winona. The Root River State Trail passes through Peterson, making the restored 1890s railroad depot a popular cyclist stop.
