Peshtigo lies along the Peshtigo River in northeastern Wisconsin, about 50 miles north of Green Bay via US Highway 141. This gateway to the Northwoods connects to Marinette and the Michigan border through Highway 22. The small city of 3,400 sits amid dense forests where the river flows toward Lake Michigan. Peshtigo holds the somber distinction of being the site of America's deadliest fire, which killed over 1,200 people on October 8, 1871.
