Pender is a farming town of 1,400 people in northeast Nebraska, 90 miles north of Omaha via US Highway 77 and Highway 9. Most visitors arrive from Omaha or Sioux City, with locals using Highway 9 to reach Norfolk and the broader highway network. The restored 1914 Pender Opera House anchors downtown and still hosts live theater productions.
