Pembina sits right at North Dakota's northern border where the Red River meets Canada. Highway 75 runs straight through town to one of the region's busiest border crossings, connecting Grand Forks 90 miles south with Winnipeg 60 miles north. This small farming community of 625 people marks the site of North Dakota's first permanent European settlement from 1797.
