Pelican Rapids is a small Minnesota city of 2,600 in lake country, about 45 miles southeast of Fargo and 180 miles northwest of Minneapolis. Highway 108 runs north-south through town, meeting Highway 34 for east-west travel to Detroit Lakes or the Dakota border. The original 1870s mill dam still creates a waterfall right downtown where the Pelican River flows over the spillway.
