Pelican is a tiny fishing village on Chichagof Island, reachable only by ferry or seaplane from Juneau. The Alaska Marine Highway provides the main connection, though charter flights offer quicker access. Built entirely on pilings over Lisianski Inlet in 1938, the whole community consists of wooden buildings connected by boardwalks above the water.
