Peculiar is a small Missouri city about 25 miles south of Kansas City via Highway 71. Route 58 connects it east-west to Harrisonville and other regional towns. The rolling farmland setting experiences typical Midwest seasons with hot summers and cold winters. Named in 1868 when the postmaster called the naming situation "peculiar" and made that the official town name.
