Payson is a farming community of 1,100 people in western Illinois, about 20 miles northeast of Quincy. Take Route 96 north from Quincy Regional Airport or Interstate 72 from Springfield. The town sits in rolling prairie between the Illinois and Mississippi river valleys. Its century-old grain elevator still receives trainloads of corn and soybeans from the surrounding fields.
