Panora is a lakeside town of 1,500 people about 45 miles west of Des Moines, built around the shores of 1,200-acre Lake Panorama. Take Highway 4 west from I-35 near Adel to reach this recreational hub in Guthrie County. The man-made lake, created in the 1970s, draws boaters and anglers from across central Iowa during summer months. The lake includes a boat-accessible island with its own small beach that locals call their best-kept secret.
