Palermo is a small farming town of 129 people in northwestern North Dakota, about 20 miles southeast of Minot via Highway 23. The town sits in Mountrail County's agricultural heartland, where Highway 23 intersects with State Highway 8. Most traffic comes from Minot commuters and agricultural transport, with the nearby Bakken oil fields bringing additional through traffic. The town's towering grain elevator, visible for miles across the prairie, remains the community's most recognizable landmark.
