Palacios is a Gulf Coast fishing town about 100 miles southwest of Houston, reached via Highway 35 along the coast or through El Campo on Highway 71. The peninsula location between Tres Palacios Bay and the Gulf brings steady sea breezes and a strong shrimping industry. Each August, the town holds its traditional Blessing of the Fleet ceremony for the local shrimp boat captains.
