Paint Rock is a small ranching town of 350 people in west-central Texas, located on US Highway 83 about 45 miles south of San Angelo. Most visitors arrive via US 83 from San Angelo or connect through US 190 from the east and west. The town sits in mesquite and ranch country with hot summers and mild winters. Paint Rock gets its name from ancient Native American pictographs still visible on limestone cliffs along the nearby Concho River.
