Painesville is Lake County's seat, located 30 miles northeast of Cleveland along Lake Erie's shore. Interstate 90 and State Route 2 provide the main access, with Route 44 connecting north to the lake and south into rural areas. Most traffic flows between Cleveland and the Pennsylvania border, while local routes serve the lake communities. Lake Erie College's Victorian campus, established in 1856, dominates the city center with its historic brick buildings.
