Osage is the Mitchell County seat in north-central Iowa, about 25 miles northeast of Mason City. US Highway 218 runs north-south through town, while Highway 9 provides the main east-west route. Most visitors come from Mason City or take Highway 9 west from I-35 near Clear Lake. The 1903 county courthouse with its distinctive clock tower dominates the historic town square.
